Children’s Centre, Petts Hill, Ealing

Orbit has completed a new single-storey children’s centre for Ealing Borough Council with an SBEM (Simplified Building Energy Model) rating that exceeds Building Control minimum requirements. The centre has hi-spec double-glazed windows to minimise energy use and has surface water attenuation measures. Two monodraft wind catchers on the roof allow automated natural cooling ventilation in warm weather, complemented by an Ecodan™ low carbon air-to-water heat pump to take the heat out of the atmosphere (effective to -20ºC, has 3.6 COP and very low running costs) and feed the underfloor heating providing hot water.
