Works have started on site for 2 very diverse projects, an Islamic Centre and a shower/WC facility for campers, both are for the Scout Association at Gilwell Park.

Wood End Library & Children’s Centre 11 May 2011
The Library and Children’s Centre in Greenford is now complete and is due to open to the public this month. The interior is fresh, light and airy and the external landscaping even features a pair of carved sheep by Chainsaw Mick!
Generator Hostel 5 May 2011
We have been instructed to refurbish London’s funkiest backpacker hostel, Generator – London in Bloomsbury. The new brand standards we helped develop will be applied to transform all the bedrooms and communal areas of this energetic 870 bed hostel.

We’re doing some more work for Harris Systems at their EMEA HQ nr Reading, a fit-out of part of their offices to provide additional desking, offices and meeting space to support their continual expansion.

Northern Farm – Phase 2 5 April 2011
Following on from the success of phase one of this historic site, phase two of the proposal will be to repair, restore and convert the adjacent listed farmyard barns into office and residential accommodation of an exceptional quality has just been submitted for planning.

Works are now nearing completion for our No.1 Knightsbridge project to refurbish the existing common parts. The works included new male and female shower facilities along with a new accessible shower and washroom along with building management facilities, ready for use by the building’s new inbound tenant JP Morgan.
Harris Systems Building 635 30 March 2011
With a couple of days to spare we have just completed the speedy fit out of Harris Systems’ new customer service centre in IQ Winnersh. The project included the installation of new furniture and floors as well relocation of their existing lab equipment.
Vine Street 23 March 2011
Façade refurbishment works are now almost complete to our Royal House project on Vine Street, Uxbridge. The new elevation improves the appearance and prominence of the entrance with a new canopy and feature lighting, particularly at night, whilst concealing some existing ventilation grilles that had to remain.

Not much to see yet but the new Islamic Centre at Gilwell Park has well and truly started on site. Nestled amongst the trees this beautiful building will be a worthy addition to the Park.

Following on from our recent design for the studios on the Melbourne Street student accommodation project, we’ve been busy working on the common areas such as the reception, office and as you’ll see from this image, the students’ common room.
Willow Place 31 January 2011
The construction of 5 apartments and a restaurant at 35 Willow Place is well under way. With the structural frame complete since October, work has begun on the construction of the walls at ground floor. The facing stonework is looking good and hopefully is a sign of the high quality finish we hope to achieve throughout the building.
Northern Farm, Hampshire 31 January 2011
Work continues apace on the historic Northern Farm farmhouse in Hampshire. Beneath the fully enclosed scaffolding the roof structure was fully stripped to reveal the original C18th timber, repairs were carried out and the roof covering reinstated using as much of the original material as possible. The work is being carried out outside of the annual bat maternity roost season and the new roof incorporates a host of details to provide future access and roosting opportunities to bats once the work is complete.

Orbit Architects has recently issued tender documentation for the refurbishment of Portland House in Crawley.
The works will comprise of the entire refurbishment of the existing 4,860sqm building, including new open plan offices on all levels, toilet cores including a new layout at ground level to incorporate accessible and shower facilities, redesigned reception area and enhanced external works to front and rear courtyard areas.

Completed in late 2009, Orbit Architects is pleased to hear that their No1 The Braccans project has recently been let in its entirety to a single new tenant.
The 3,200sqm existing building was fully refurbished as part of our works with new open plan offices, toilet cores, reception area and enhanced external works to Cat-A standard for Royal London.

Christmas at Orbit 21 December 2010
As part of our Christmas festivities the whole team spent a day at Thames Reach’s hostel in Battersea on Friday. The hostel provides a home and support for ex street drinkers and rough sleepers. During our day we created and put up decorations and baked mince pies, Yule logs and cup cakes, The day was as much about engaging the residents as doing something to help as Christmas can be a difficult time of year for many of them. It was a very successful day. Following that we all went to Bistroteque in east London where we enjoyed the food, drink, cabaret and dancing.

A planning application for a new office building in Bloomsbury has been submitted this week. The building is in a tightly constrained site at the end of a mews and will provide office and workshop space for Generator Hostels as their new HQ as well as to other local businesses. The design is contemporary and will have a large glazed elevation that will be screen printed with images from the surrounding Bloomsbury Conservation Area.

Orbit has been invited to the Royal Opening of Harris’ New EMEA HQ. We completed the 72,000 SqFt fit out for them earlier this year and the building will be officially opened by Prince Andrew.

Northern Farm Refurbishment 6 December 2010
The refurbishment of the historic Northern Farm farmhouse in Over Wallop, near Salisbury has commenced on site. This prominent village building, in parts dating back to the mid 19thC, has been neglected for many years and following the end of the bat maternity season in November the property was completely covered by a temporary roof to enable the existing slated roof to be completely refurbished. Works to the house will follow on in the New Year.

No. 1 Knightsbridge 24 November 2010
Orbit Architects has recently completed a refurbishment at No 1 Knightsbridge, London a prominent high quality office development adjacent to Hyde Park. Spread over three floors, the works now provide 33,500 sqft of new open plan Grade A office accommodation which will be occupied by JP Morgan. Works took approximately four months and the main contractor was ISG with Martin Bates Consultancy and Lamorbey Associates as project manager and services engineers respectively.

Orbit is delighted to have received Planning Permission for the extension of a large family house in West Wickham for a private client.
The historical character of the house will be retained and great care given to the preservation of the ‘West Wickham Oak”, one of the great trees of London, which stands within the property’s garden.

We have completed a 700sqm fit-out for The Oriel Office Business Centre, operated by Harvard. Relocating the company from 85 to 33 Bath Road, the scheme comprised of reception area, flexible meeting rooms, managed office suites and fully serviced office accommodation.

The multi-tenanted building at 33 Bath Road in Slough has recently been the subject of a revamp. Working for Overbury, we completed the refurbishment of the main reception area and rebranding of the building as Capital Point.

Orbit has been appointed by Generator, the leading hostel operator to assist them in developing their Brand Standards to be used by developers in future projects in UK and Europe. We are working alongside internationally renowned interior designers WATG.

The Orbit team enjoyed an evening of culture and fun at the Hayward Gallery’s “Move: Choreographing You” which invites visitors to become participants – and in some cases dancers – in installations and sculptures by internationally renowned visual artists. The evening was rounded off by tapas and red wine.
Sensitive Farm Conversion 4 November 2010
Orbit is involved with a challenging project set in the picturesque village of Over Wallop on the borders of Wiltshire. The site includes an original farmhouse, untouched in many years, dilapidated barns, several of which are listed and are on the ‘at risk’ register, together with surrounding land and a paddock. Orbit has developed a strategy for refurbishment and development which is supported by the local planners. Work is about to commence on the farmhouse with work on refurbishing and converting the barns programmed for next year.
High Quality Development in Green Belt 21 October 2010
Orbit Architects has been successful in obtaining a number of planning permissions for Rabley Park, a large privately owned country house set within 12-acres of Hertfordshire countryside. Despite being located within the green belt permissions have been secured new freestanding ancillary buildings. Detailed designs are now being prepared for the remaining buildings and works are due to commence shortly.
Desso Event 21 October 2010
Some of the Orbit team had a very enjoyable evening at Desso’s Paper Moon Imaginarium event. The challenge was to create a paper sculpture to be worn on the head (not a hat apparently) and reflect light. We all discovered the possibilities of working with paper and came up with some very interesting creations!
New Reception and Information Centre 21 October 2010
Following a recent internal design competition, Orbit has developed a design for a new reception space for the Islamic Relief’s London office. As well as providing a welcome area for visitors, the space is to house a coffee and information point for passers by.

High Quality Office refurbishment with a French Twist 21 October 2010
4 Carlton Gardens in Central London is famous as it was General Charles de Gaulle’s HQ during WW II and is regularly visited by French presidents to pay homage. Orbit is involved with the refurbishment o the common areas in this prestigious office building which was also a home to Lord Palmerton for a time. Two floors are almost complete and completion is due mid-November.

We are developing yet another project for the Scout Association at Gilwell Park. The Islamic Centre is a small but iconic building which will provide a space to worship, learn about the Muslim faith and meet.
Large Scale Residential Development 20 October 2010
A planning submission for 126 residential units in Borehamwood has been submitted to Hertsmere Council. The site will see the redevelopment of a site currently occupied by an outdated office building and will make space for a contemporary development of townhouses and apartments. The design has been presented to and is supported by the design panel ‘Inspire East’.

Orbit Architects is delighted to be working with Claudio Pulze on the fit out of his latest restaurant in Willow Place in the heart of Westminster. Claudio is one of London’s most influential and prolific restaurateurs; having opened more than 35 restaurants in the capital since 1975, many of which have showcased the talents of some of today’s most celebrated chefs – Gordon Ramsay, Marcus Wareing and Jason Atherton to name just a few.
