Transformative refurbishment  of the reception and end of journey facilities of an iconic City of London building.

The scheme at 60 Fenchurch Street was proposed to address the outdated, cramped reception area and underutilised basement space which lacked suitable amenities for the tenants. The existing reception area did not align with the expectations of contemporary tenants, while the basement shell remained unused, offering untapped potential for enhancing the building's amenities.

The need arose to create an inviting entrance and modern end-of-journey facilities, catering to the demands of a central City of London property,  with considerations to improve the first impression of the building and making the building more accessible to the street.

The delivered scheme aims to improve the experience for those arriving at 60 Fenchurch Street, providing a more inviting and functional reception, as well as best in class facilities for tenants who cycle to work or need additional end-of-journey amenities. The project aims to attract prospective tenants by adding value through upgraded facilities and creating a more attractive environment that boosts the building’s overall appeal.

The scheme delivers a series of tangible design enhancements. The redesigned reception transforms the perception of the building, offering a larger, open, and more welcoming arrival space featuring a green living wall, dynamic panelled ceiling and dramatic pendant lighting. The introduction of colourful touchdown workspaces and comfort amenities adds value for tenants and visitors alike. Additionally, the conversion of the previously empty basement into an end of trip facility including  bike racks and shower facilities as well as a 970 sq ft E-class unit, significantly enhances the building’s wellbeing offer. 

Orbit approached the design by first addressing the key challenges of the site- a narrow, cramped reception area and an empty basement shell. 

Orbit Architects successfully met these challenges, delivering a space that is not only functional and aesthetically pleasing but also enhances the tenant experience, setting a new standard for the building’s reception and end-of-journey facilities.
