A timeless transformation of an iconic City of London building, blending history with innovation

Orbit Architects served as the lead architects for the design and delivery of the top floor workplace at Exchequer Court;  a project we have been intricately involved with over the past six years, contributing to various aspects of the building's evolution.

The project involved a dual approach- one half of the floor was designed as CAT A, making it ready for immediate occupancy, including a full refurbishment of the WCs. The other half was designed as CAT B, tailored to meet the specific needs of Collegiate Management Services, which also included toilet refurbishments. Our brief encompassed a comprehensive office fit-out that not only aligned with the design language of the previously refurbished floors but also catered to the requirements of new tenants. This included creating a welcoming lift lobby, functional meeting rooms, and versatile breakout spaces.

One of the key challenges of this project was to design a space that both complemented the existing aesthetics of Exchequer Court, and offered a unique environment tailored to the needs of new occupants. This required a fit-out that would stand the test of time while dealing with the intricacies of an older building, where unexpected issues could arise during construction.

Orbit Architects successfully navigated these challenges, delivering a new space that balances continuity with innovation, ensuring that the top floor of Exchequer Court serves as both a cohesive extension of the building, while offering a distinctive environment for its new occupants.
